Sizing and Fit

Armor only protects what it covers. A plate that is too small leaves vitals exposed, and one that is too big jams your arms and neck. Here is how to get it right.

Most adults fit a medium SAPI plate or a 10 x 12 commercial plate. Smaller frames often do better with 8 x 10 or a small SAPI. Larger frames may need 11 x 14.

Where the plate should sit

The most common mistake is wearing plates too low. If your front plate covers your belly button, raise it. Your back plate should sit at the same height as the front.

Pick a cut

Cut decides coverage versus arm movement

Shooters and swimmer cuts give your arms more room for a rifle. SAPI cuts are a good middle ground. Learn more in Types of Body Armor.
